Tano Tijerina was born and raised in Webb county.
He comes from a family of public servants who have modeled the meaning of hard work and community service, and passed that remarkable work ethic down from generation to generation. His parents, Cayetano and Rosalinda Tijerina have worked in the education field and at Webb County.
Tano graduated from Nixon High School in 1992 and went to junior college at Navarro and Laredo Junior college. In 1993 he was drafted in the 8th round by the Milwaukee Brewers and pitched for the organization’s minor league clubs until his retirement.
After retiring from baseball he decided to complete his education and earned his college degree from TAMIU in 2002.
Tano’s business interests include oil and gas, ranching, rodeo stock management, investments, and trucking.
He has served on the board of the South Texas Food Bank and supports numerous local and international nonprofit organizations.
He and his wife, Kimberly Walker Tijerina, have been married 19 years and have four children.
